In March, Ladies Circle were recognised for the 13th consecutive year as a Caring Organisation. This year, Hong Kong Family Welfare Society nominated us to receive the award at the Caring Company Partnership Expo 2017.
We interview one of our Community Coordinators below to find out more about her impressions of the expo, potential focus of future LCHK volunteer work and how she feels about her role as Community Coordinator....
LCHK: Thank you for accepting the award on our behalf, what did it mean to you?
Karla: On behalf of Ladies Circle Hong Kong, I take great pleasure in representing our group for receiving the award. This is my second year as the Community Coordinator and I always feel to be amazed with our members' commitment and contribution to the local community and for those who are in need in other parts of the world.
LCHK: That's wonderful. How did this years Expo compare to previous years, did you find any new charities we could consider supporting in the future?
Karla: Compared with the past two years, I found this year had the least number of exhibitors at the expo.
I would recommend to have a used material collection day to support one division at the HK Women Workers Association. The sewing team on recycling work, which is to collect waste material to re-make / re-design into new product. Broken umbrella, used table cloth / coffee bean bag / rice bag, etc. will be made as handbags, pouches, art pieces... for selling at their shops.
LCHK: That sounds like something our newly formed Craft Circle could get involved with!
Finally, what do you enjoy about membership of LCHK and the work we do in the Community?
Karla: Members of Ladies Circle Hong Kong not only build up friendship between ourselves, we also try to make connection to those we do not know and have never seen before. We also used our funding wisely in sponsoring children and adults from low income and deprived families, new immigrants and people with disabilities. This doesn't quite fully describe how rewarding all these services are to me but I am as always excited on being one of the volunteers."
LCHK: Thank you for your time Karla. The work our Community Coordinators undertake is very much appreciated by our members and charities we support.
