We love drinks drop ins at Ladies Circle Hong Kong - it's an opportunity to mingle and catch up in relaxed surroundings while at the same time as raising funds for our focus charity "Small Group Homes."
On Wednesday evening we were joined by members past and present and friends at an extra special Drinks Drop In at the home of one of our very long standing members. Laura has been such a wonderful presence in our membership and on Council over many years.
Laura is relocating to the UK soon and will be very much missed in our daily lives - but will still be back often and will keep in touch across the miles.
As President I was given the honour of thanking Laura on the night and announcing how much we'd raised (a staggering HK$3,400). I should really have said a little more than just "this is not Goodbye, just a farewell..." I confess to finding it all a bit too emotional (totally rubbish on reflection and I'd give myself a 2 out of 10 !)
It's important to set the record straight I think!....
"Laura, a big thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have been my rock these past few years. Always so supportive and full of encouragement, love and compassion. So dedicated and hard working and with such a level head. You truly embody everything that I take to mean being a true member of Ladies Circle and I will miss you so very much. With much love and thanks to you always."
A fabulous AGM last night celebrating a wonderful year together, approving funding of HK$120,000 for local charities, celebrating our members and their dedication, thanking our Council of 2016/17 and welcoming our new Council of 2017/18.
The outgoing Council of 2016/17 put together a full program of social and community events and delivered this brand new whizzy website to us. A special thanks to our outgoing President, Becca, to our Treasurer of the past THREE years, Telina, and Angela, one of our social secretaries who all stood down from their positions.
Congratulations to our Member of the Year, Lina, as voted by the outgoing Council Lina has continued to be a huge support to the council, attends many social and Community events - and is always keen to lend a hand whenever needed.
We also recognised Sharon, Sue, Karen and Diane for everything they have done this year - from Crossroads coordination, to weekly Crossroads visits, to organising hikes for members.
This year, three of our long standing members, all of whom have served on Council for many years, will be leaving Hong Kong. We honoured their years of friendship and service with Honorary Lifetime Member awards and wish them all the very best on their new adventures (and will miss them a great deal.)
Congratulations to Laura, Sharon and Claire.
The new Council of 2017/18 formed and we are delighted to welcome Fiona back as President. She is joined by Vice President - Patty, Treasurer - Tasha, Secretary - Clare, Membership Secretary - Emma, Community Coordinators Mary & Karla, Webmaster - Eleanor and Social Secretaries Emily and Louise.
There is a lot to look forward to in 2018 - as Ladies Circle Hong Kong will celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The new Council are going to be very busy indeed - so watch this space and join us !!
