Council

President – Jane Towns

A Yorkshire Lass, I moved to Hong Kong in January 2010, with my husband and two young children.  I joined LCHK three months later when a friend of a friend invited me along to the monthly dinner.  I haven’t looked back since!  In my ‘real life’ I was a primary school teacher / principal in the UK and at the moment I enjoy working with children in Hong Kong on a voluntary basis.  I enjoy all that Hong Kong offers – restaurants, theatres, sky lines etc.  It’s an exciting and vibrant city! It’s a privilege to serve LCHK and I am so looking forward to the year ahead!

Social Coordinator – Karen Beattie

I arrived in Hong Kong in August 2008 with my husband and two children.  It was my first time on an overseas posting, so I was unsure about what Hong Kong would bring.  An invitation to a LCHK Social Event guided me to becoming a member in December 2008 and to meeting lots of new friends and acquaintances. I was offered the chance to become a Member of Council in 2009 and took on the role of Social Coordinator in 2010.

I am a stay-at-home mum, giving me the chance to attend various fundraising events held by LCHK.  My interests are socializing (of course!), sightseeing in Hong Kong, and making new friends – LCHK being the perfect blend of all these!

Treasurer – Helen Hazell

I left the UK in 1993 and have, in this time, lived in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, before returning to Hong Kong ten years ago.  I have two children both born in Hong Kong who now study at West Island School. I was introduced to LCHK gradually over a two-year period by my friend Kathy Chalk, and I finally joined about two and a half years ago. In that time, I have enjoyed regularly volunteering with the Hong Kong Crossroads Circle (and I am now coordinator). LCHK has also reintroduced me to golf after an eight year hiatus.

Membership Coordinator – Lucy Hill

Lucy HillAs a long time Hong Kong resident I value the continuity that LCHK has added to my life. Not always the same people but always a great bunch of ladies at monthly meetings and events. Since joining in 1992, LCHK has given me so many opportunities – Outreach which works in the poorer neighbourhoods has opened my eyes to many of the social issues affecting communities here; social events and fund-raisers have taken me into ballrooms and basements; and our international affiliation has taken me to conferences in Cyprus, Finland and Malta. Am I glad I joined?…You bet!  And I am delighted to serve on this year’s Council as Membership Coordinator to make sure lots of other ladies join too!

Community Coordinator – Julia Carmichael

I moved to Hong Kong with my husband, Stewart, in March 2009 from Singapore, where we’d been living for eighteen months.  I love the ‘get-up-and-go’ of this city.

Since being introduced to LCHK I have met some wonderful people and, through our Golf Circle, might just have started to improve my golf … slightly!  I volunteer for Riding for the Disabled and my other interests include dance, music and travel.

Secretary – Rachel Moore

I moved to Hong Kong with my husband and two young children in April 2011 from London. Within days of being here I found myself at a Ladies Circle social event having kindly been invited by a friend. I was immediately struck by the warmth and friendliness of the ladies there. It wasn’t long before I became a member of LCHK and then Secretary.
I love the energy and ‘anything’s possible’ attitude of Hong Kong. When I’m not chasing after my children I like to keep active, hike, discover more of Hong Kong and socialise. If time will permit, I hope to take up golf with my fellow Circlers.

Immediate Past President – Jodie Early

I have lived in Hong Kong for just over 8 years having moved from Sydney with my husband and 2 children.  I joined LCHK not long after we moved here, having been introduced by a great friend who had been an active ‘Ladies’ Circler’.  I found the ladies to be incredibly welcoming, helpful and friendly – all very necessary things when faced with a new country and no family nearby.  What was great was how friendly and supportive they all were to each other and to the Hong Kong community.  I quickly realised I wanted to be a part of this wonderful group of ladies who have made a real difference to those in need in Hong Kong.  Before long I was on Council as Speaker Coordinator!  I am a full-time mother, part-time nurse and university student.  In my ‘spare time’ I love to swim (tell me an Aussie who doesn’t), play golf, do yoga, shop and play tour guide to the many visitors we have throughout the year.

Webmaster – Lisa Chiu

Lisa ChiuOriginally from New Zealand, my husband and I decided to give our two young children a taste of Chinese culture by moving to Hong Kong in July 2008 after many years in Australia. I love the cultural diversity of this city, the colour, and of course the food. In times past I was a geographer. Now a stay-at-home mum, attending the LCHK meetings and social events have introduced me to so many interesting and intelligent women and an incredibly supportive community.
