Small Group Homes

Small Group Homes, run by the Hong Kong Christian Service, helps families, when circumstances temporarily make it difficult for them to remain together, by placing children either in foster care or in Small Group Homes.  Currently 80 children are cared for across 10 homes and, through our fundraising, we are able to give the children swimming lessons, guitar and piano lessons.  Each child receives, from LCHK, a cake on his or her birthday and traditionally, to celebrate the New Lunar Year, we visit one home with gifts.

Last year Small Group Homes nominated LCHK for the Caring Company and Caring Organization 2010 Award.  We are very honoured to receive this award and proudly display the logo.

Crossroads

Crossroads is a global charity which recycles quality excess goods from Hong Kong and redistributes them to areas in need both locally and internationally.  Each week, either on a Tuesday or Wednesday, members of LCHK volunteer their time at the New Territories warehouse to help co-ordinate the arrival of new stationery and the shipment of those items to various locations.

The Society for the Relief of Disabled Children

The Society for the Relief of Disabled Children (Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital, Sandy Bay) provides medical care and specialist rehabilitation services to disabled children.  Every Friday between 9.30 to 1 pm a group of ladies help with various much needed tasks such as Christmas card and wrapping paper packing, to puppet show preparation.  In November of last year we held a successful cake stall at their annual fair.

Box of Hope

Box of Hope is a Hong Kong based charity that provides underprivileged children with fun and educational gifts.  New items are donated in a wrapped shoe box and delivered directly to the children.  The charity distributes thousands of shoe boxes, filled with a range of goodies for children aged between 0-16.  In 2010 members of LCHK collected items that filled 65 shoe boxes and a team of 14 ladies also helped at the distribution centre.  We very much hope to continue this support this December.

Round Table

Round Table holds an annual charity fundraiser – The Hong Kong Pedal Kart Race.  LCHK has supported this event for a number of years by performing administrative tasks and offering support during the 24 hour race, held in Victoria Park.  From the proceeds from 2009 LCHK received HK$80,000 to distribute to our nominated charities.  With our continued support last year, we are looking forward to announcing the outcome of the charitable donations for 2010 later this year.

Fundraising Socials

Drinks Drop-In

Drinks Drop-Ins are hosted every 4-6 weeks by a member of LCHK.  It may be for morning coffee, afternoon tea or even an evening ‘tipple’.  Each member, and their guests, are asked to donate HK$50 into a charity ‘kitty’, with the money raised either going towards the LCHK Nominated Charity of the Year ‘Small Group Homes’, or another of our worthwhile charities.  It’s a great opportunity to meet people, introduce friends, and to further ‘get-to-know’ other members.

Wine Dinners

Wine dinners have been organized, with thanks to the generous support of Crown Wine Cellars and Wine’n'Things, by members of LCHK, and in May 2010 in excess of HK$80,000 was raised for China Coast Community (CCC), a charity providing residential care for the elderly.  With this funding CCC were able to purchase 25 specially designed chairs for their residents.

In February 2011 a further HK$32,000 was raised through our Wine Dinners with the monies being shared between Small Group Homes and Home Care for Girls (a Hong Kong based charity offering residential care to young women).
