A group of our ladies wrapped and packed a total of 65 boxes for Boxes for Hope…and there’s more to come! Thank you to Angela for hosting in your lovely house and providing us with wine to keep the wrapping going! Fantastic result!

These boxes will be gifted to underprivileged children both locally and within Asia by the Box of Hope charity project.
The Round Table Pedal Kart Race will take place on the 11th and 12th of February 2012.
Ladies Circle Hong Kong members help with the administration and marshalling of the event which runs for a full 24 hours in Victoria Park. Please mark your calendars with the dates and watch out for service opportunities beginning with preparation work in January. The race raises approximately HK$ 1,000,000. For the help Ladies Circle Hong Kong provide at the event we receive 10% to distribute to our charity nominees.
Contact Lucy Hill our membership coordinator (hklcmembership@gmail.com) if you would like to be involved in this fantastic event.

Do you have a free Tuesday or Wednesday morning to help out a local charity? Now that summer break is behind us, Ladies Circlers are heading out to Crossroads to assist where needed on a weekly basis. You can help weekly, fortnightly, monthly or on an as available basis.
If you would like to come and help, please let us know.
A small group of ladies went to Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital fundraising department in Pok Fu Lam this morning to help package Christmas cards ready for sale.
Piles of Christmas cards needed to be folded, sorted into lots of 10 and packed with envelopes. We were able to package up 1670 Christmas cards into bundles ready to be shipped.
Not only was it a chance to help others, but a great opportunity to catch up with other ladies and chat.
If you would like to join in volunteering on Friday mornings for a couple of hours when you can please contact our Community Coordinator.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Judy Leung from the DKCH Society for Relief of Disabled Children. We have a plan of action for possible ways that HKLC can help the society over the coming few months.
Immediate help required.….. can anyone join me at the office in Pokfulam between 10.30am and 1.30pm
TOMORROW? They need 300 packs of new cards prepared before Monday! Please
let me know if you can spare an hour or two.
We intend to go in every Friday morning between 9.30 and 1pm so if you are available for other dates, please let me know. A weekly email will be sent out for the first few weeks as we try to build up a team of volunteers. (weekly commitment not necessary)
HKLC are going to commit to making up 500 packs of wrapping paper this season (200 by the beginning of October and another 300 by the end of October). Julia and I have decided to hold two ‘drink and pack’ nights…. the first at my house (Bel Air) next Wednesday evening, 21 September 7.30pm to 10pm - come along whenever! Let me know if you are interested. Should be a very sociable occasion!
Cake Stall at Pokfulam Fair 5 November 2011 - we are looking for 4 volunteers for 9am – 12 noon and 3 more volunteers for the afternoon, please can you check your diaries to see if you are available to help – thank you so much! We will be giving out cake boxes to everyone in October so perhaps some of you might be able to fill the boxes with goodies for the Fair.
SRDC Website - Judy is looking for someone who might be willing to take a morning over the next few weeks to proof read the new draft of their website. She would like a native speaker to look at it before the package is presented to the Board of Governors. No need to be web savvy just skilled enough to navigate through a few website pages. Comments to be written on a hard copy. If you are interested please let me know.
This is an exciting project and offers many of us an opportunity to serve our local community in a slightly different way. Help from all of us can make a huge difference. Thank you!

Jane Topping’s 10 year old son, Elliot decided to take part in the local St Baldricks event this year to shave his head for cancer research. At the June HKLC dinner, members contributed $2135 to Elliot’s cause.
Elliot raised an amazing $13,274 for the Children’s Cancer Foundation in Hong Kong to put towards life saving research.

Well done Elliot!
Thank you to Magda for organising the trip out to Crossroads! Several new faces went to look around the facilities and enjoyed an Introductory Talk by one of the members of staff.

HK Ladies Circle volunteering has stopped for the summer break. Helen will let everyone know when the weekly volunteering starts up again!
At the June meeting we were fortunate enough to have Small Homes representatives speak to us about their charity and how it changes children’s lives in the community. They also shared with us where the money HKLC has donated is used and how much joy it brings to the children.
After their talk we proudly presented them with a cheque for HK$50,000 and at least 6 large bags of various stationary supplies donated by our members for the Small Homes children.
